The Organization for the Protection
of Children’s Rights (O.P.C.R.) is a registered,
charitable organization founded in 1983 by Mr.
Riccardo Di Done. The main objective of the
O.P.C.R. is to protect and defend the rights
of children and adolescents in difficulty and more particularly,
those individuals experiencing problems related to family conflicts
or to the breakdown of the family.
|
| Motivated
by his personal experience of having lived through a separation and
having faced difficulties which were almost impossible to overcome
in order to maintain his most basic rights as a parent and share the
wealth of a parental relationship with his son, Riccardo Di
Done decided to come to the aid of families by founding the
O.P.C.R. |
| Through his
determination and involvement, he wanted to reduce to a minimum the
after effects which the breakdown of the family brings about on all
of its members and various generations. |
| The O.P.C.R.
intervenes by conducting research and by developing intervention and
prevention strategies. It has also prepared numerous research projects
and literature reviews in collaboration with professional and university
specialists and has developed several tools aimed to sensitize the
population. To date, the O.P.C.R. has organized 5
international conferences having the following themes: |
| • |
Divorce
and Children : How to Intervene ? (1988) |
| • |
The Child and Family
Transformations: Vulnerability and Adaptation (1992) |
| • |
The Family and
Children's right in the year 2000: New Reproductive Technologies
- Adoption (1997) |
| • |
Children and Violence
: Our Individual, Family and Collective Responsibilities (1999) |
| • |
Children and Poverty
: The Impact of Economic, Social and Political Choices (2002) |
|
| Following
these conferences and research projects, the O.P.C.R.
has presented several briefs and recommendations to the different
levels of government with the objective of helping orient family policies,
especially concerning family mediation, the Divorce Act,
the mental health reform, alimentary pension, custody and visitation
rights, etc. |
| Pursuant
to the increasing number of requests for legal help and information,
the O.P.C.R. created an additional service in 1992,
the Family Resources Centre of Quebec (F.R.C.Q.).
This new entity offers a telephone help line, professional legal advice
and information sessions free of charge to the population. In 1996,
the F.R.C.Q. became an independent charitable organization
on its own. To learn more about the F.R.C.Q. visit

| Moreover, various special events
are organized each year for underprivileged children of the Montreal
and Quebec city regions. Since 1987, 11,000 children have benefited
from Christmas
Shows, Summer Camps and others. |
| |
| Furthermore, since its foundation,
19 years ago, the Organization for the Protection of Children’s
Rights devotes itself to the well being of children and adolescents:
Because their future…is ours as well. |
