For a 17th consecutive year, the Organization for the Protection of Children's Rights will have the pleasure of organizing its Summer Camps for children from economically deprived areas. These young children dream about escaping the city for a few days to discover and fully appreciate nature's little pleasures just as the more fortunate children do. During the summer of 2004, 180 underprivileged children between the ages of 10 and 12 had the chance to participate in these Summer Camps. Surrounded by professional animators, the children learn several notions which will be of great importance in their life: listening skills, sharing, respect, and tolerance. Our young guests also had the opportunity of taking part in numerous sporting events: canoeing, excursions, hiking, treasure hunts, water slides, bow and arrow, olympics, orientation rallies and various others. The open air bases, situated alongside a waterfront, provide the children with great opportunities to practice leisure activities. Our young guests are comfortably lodged and above all, receive 3 delicious, wholesome meals and 4 snacks daily. Satisfying their hunger represents a joy in itself for these children who experience poverty on a daily basis.
After these 3 dream days in nature, our young adventurers return home with a full stomach, their arms filled with gifts, a new sleeping bag offered by our generous donors, precious souvenirs they not forget and a huge smile brightening up their face which really says a lot!!
This summer, two stays will be organized. 130 underprivileged children from the greater Montreal metropolitan region will visit Papillon Camp, in St-Alphonse de Rodriguez (QC) on the 15 th , 16 th and 17 th of June and the 25 th , 26 th and 27 th of July, 2005. Approximately 130 children from the great Quebec region will visit the O Carrefour Camp, situated in Île d'Orléans (QC), on the 21 st , 22 nd and 23 rd of June and the 13 th , 14 th and 15 th of August, 2005.
